Al Gore recently introduced his latest slide show to the TED conference. Not surprisingly, Gore resorted to lies to make his point, although Gore would brush it off by saying it's "appropriate to have an over representation of factual presentations of how dangerous (anthropogenic global warming) is, blah, blah, blah, blah.
What did Gore lie about this time? The most dramatic segment of his "slide show" is about 7 minutes in. Gore says: "Already around the Arctic Circle - this is, uh, a famous village in Alaska (shows a photo of a house about to go over an embankment), this is a town in Newfoundland (shows a video of a home going over an embankment while Gore pauses for for maximum dramatic effect as the house goes down the hill)"..... The video that Gore shows of a house going over the embankment is labeled "Daniels Harbour, April 19, 2007".
Indeed, Bruce Biggins' home in Daniels Harbour, Newfoundland, Canada did go over the landslide's edge on that date.
That same day, CTV reported: Some officials have suggested that warmer temperatures loosened clay soil in the cliff and migrating meltwater is washing away the earth at a rapid rate.
One former resident said the problem stems from a pond and wetlands not far from the cliff.
"I think that a lot of this is caused by that water seeping into the sub-soil and the waves on the other side just make it worse.'' So CTV says that "warmer temperatures" caused the landslide - say, perhaps anthropogenic global warming? Naw. On April 19 in the Northern Hemisphere, this is commonly known as spring. Also that same day, CBC reported: A landslide last October swept away tonnes of soil, forcing the evacuation of four houses and one business. The cliff stabilized over the winter, but thawing soil in recent weeks has been cited as contributing to the latest slides. Scientists have noted that the cliff — based not in the bedrock commonly seen across Newfoundland but in clay — was heavy at the top, and eroded at the bottom. Gore's lie was not just limited to the cause of the landslide in Daniels Harbour, he was equally deceitful in his contention that Daniels Harbour is "around the Arctic Circle". Daniels Harbour is a small town with a population of about 350 and is over 1,100 miles (about 1,800 km) south of the Arctic Circle. To put this in perspective, some cities that are equal distance or closer to the Arctic Circle are Calgary, London, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Moscow. Close to the Arctic Circle? Not.
