Yesterday in Florida, Mr. Lower-the-Oceans-Heal-the-Planet Obama distanced himself from Ms. Save-the-Planet Pelosi and other drill-dodging Dems. In fact, he called the speaker rigid. The Palm Beach Post reports:
Ouch. Botox jokes are a little below the belt, aren't they, Barack? But seriously . . . Obama expects a pile of taxpayer money going to renewables as part of his compromise, of course. And in his comments he would go on to repeat the "we can't drill our way out of this problem, we won't see a drop for ten years anyway" canard — as Confucius (and Deroy Murdock) said, “The best time to plant a tree is ten years ago. The second best time is now.” Still, his expressed interest in "[bringing] down gas prices" puts him to the right of do-nothing Congressional Dems, which is a safer place to be than shoulder-to-shoulder with them. Needless to say, this marks yet another reversal for the Dem standard-bearer. The oft-unstated but obvious policy of Obama and his fellow envirocrats is to force energy conservation by making energy more expensive. He is one of the few such pols to have let the truth slip out, in fact (ah, inexperience): in June, when asked about Americans hurting from high gas prices, he told MSNBC, “I think that I would have preferred a more gradual adjustment.” [Apparently, he was hoping that gasoline consumers would behave like Al Gore's frog-in-hot-water.] Only six weeks or so ago, Obama deemed higher gas prices a necessary evil in saving the planet from America. Yesterday in Florida, lowering gas prices became the motive for breaking with his party and offering a compromise on Outer Continental Shelf drilling. The fact that this came in Florida, the same place where John McCain announced his support for an end to the OCS-drilling ban, is pure coincidence. Expect more such Obamoderate displays during swing-state stopovers in the months ahead. 3.26 Copyright (C) 2008 Compojoom.com / Copyright (C) 2007 Alain Georgette / Copyright (C) 2006 Frantisek Hliva.
