CCF Note: Our pals at The Daily Bayonet have done another superb job of putting together a weekly snapshot of the hoaxers and hoodlums spreading the spurious religion of global warming. The end of the week approaches, but I'm expecting to be busy tomorrow, so here is the weekly round-up one day early. Also, I hope that links will now open in new tabs (or windows) so that you don't have navigation problems. Let me know if this is better or worse for you. Before we get into the full throttle denialfest, I want to extend a thank you to those bloggers that help to get this post read each week. My readership of the round-up increases every week, which I attribute largely to the attention given by folks like Tom Nelson, Skeptics Global Warming and Climate Change Fraud. Thanks chaps. If I missed anyone, sorry. If you have a blog and would like to help spread the denier word, drop me an email .
To business...
Part One: Al Gore and Friends
Al's big news this week is that he gets to speak to the lefty Mile High Club at the DNC in Denver. Al's always happy to speak to people, as long as they aren't the press.
The weather was supposed to be a balmy 94F for his Denver speech, as predicted by those clever climate models Al likes so much. Oh, wait, this just in:
Remember Al's speech where he channeled JFK and challenged America to be fossil fuel free in 10 years? Ain't gonna happen. For once I must give Al credit for something, he has decided to save the planet by killing off his Climate Crisis blog. Way to go, Al.
Canada's own Gore-lite, the aging hippy David Suzuki, has an interesting column in which he wants us to worship mountains and live by scrabbling in the dirt. Or something. I don't know what he's on about, but neither does he, so it's all cool. Man.
Part Two: AGW Scaremongers and Propagandists
In a bid to add global warming believers to her fan base of teenage girls and perverts, Miley Cyrus, a pop-tart, sings an anthem to global warming. While we're talking about children, Roger Pielke Sr. notes that teachers are getting a very limited perspective on global warming. In more despotic regimes this would be denounced as indoctrination. SGW has a great post about the dangerous idiots that think combating climate change is a good idea, even if there isn't any. More from me on the same issue here. The Washington Post spins so fast it could dry laundry in a different zip code.
AGW believer and academic Naomi Oreskes wonders why climate skeptics still persist. Her conclusion (of course) is that skeptics are bought and paid for by Big Oil and Big Coal:
"We know where the money is coming from. We know this has been funded
by a mix
of sources including the fossil-fuel industry and particularly the coal industry..."
Polar bears are dying, again. Every week we have the dying polar bears. They take longer to expire than that chick in the English Patient. More on bears later in this round up. The Bjorn Lomborg versus Oliver Tickell spat continues. So far it's 4-0 to Lomborg. Tickell-me-Enviro seems to have dropped his argument in the face of all those pesky facts. Typical lefty. Here's a fun take on the ever-intolerant global-warming muppet James Hansen.
The
British Medical Journal has found the answer to global warming, but
it's not a new solution, its another iteration of the green's
depopulation fetish. They want Brits to have fewer kids. This is in the UK, not China. Scared yet? Africa will soon be underwater. Or parts of it will. In 2099. Maybe. Whatever, it was a good headline, don't make them explain it.
We're all dead in 100 months. I quit smoking for this? Damn.
Not how we all die in 100 months, but a useful segway for Part 6.
Part Three: Inconvenient Truths
Global warming believers like wildlife. A lot. Why then is it OK for wind farms to kill bats and rare birds, but not for oilsands to kill ducks that can't tell water from toxic waste? Isn't that like, Darwinism? To file under 'uncooperative history' we have a story about how recent ice core samples show that pollution was highest 100 years ago. But, it wasn't warm back then. Oops.
A similar story but with older samples is at the BBC. Let's see if we can spot the problem in this generally pro-warming story...
"What fascinates scientists about the age of the finds is that they
correspond to times when climate specialists have already calculated
the Earth was going through an especially warm period, caused by
fluctuations in the orbital pattern of the Earth in relation to the Sun."
Hmmm, it must have been all those SUV's the cave-men were driving around that caused all that warming. Nothing like blowing a big hole in your own theory.
It's the Sun, stupid! Canada tries to save a species of shark after Canada's government tried to kill it. When economies attack, AGW blinks. People in the UK must pay more for power this winter. Note to my old countrymen, it's time for that revolution chaps.
Hybrid cars rock! Not. Australia doesn't know how to dispose of the nickel-hydride batteries. Oh, and the Prius uses virtual slave labour. Take that, Pious owners.
Prius, meet reality.
Part Four: AGW in the News
Global Warming and related stories are always in the news, but I save all the best stuff for you. Family is important, but so is the environment. So it's time to get closer to your family with re-usable toilet wipes. As if we needed further confirmation that greens are all dirty hippys. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi makes Forrest Gump look like Einstein. Natural gas is an alternative source of energy, really. The Irish population dodges a carbon tax bullet. Laughing at Green celebrities. Number 5 will likely be all over the reusable wipes.
Two items from Australia: Second is the decision by Australia's federal Environment Minister to expand uranium mining. What's so great about that, you ask? Aha! I say, the federal Environment Minister is none other that anti-nuke activist and Midnight Oil singer Pete Garrett. Reality bites, eh mate?
Dubai has an idea to build a city in a pyramid that would be carbon neutral. It could hold a million people. Presumably live ones, rather than the earlier Egyptian model.
A Dubyramid?
Part Five: Real Science
Dr. Tim Ball on the madness of geoengineering. Jennifer Marohasy on how its all too easy to misinterpret the science. It's the Sun, Stupid. Part Deux. Climate hoaxers are as bad as Nigerian email scammers. Worse, IMHO. Tim Blair notices that the planet rarely cooperates with the warmers. British weather man says the rotten summer is not the fault of global warming. Is it cold in here, or is just the planet? Two more scientists join the ranks of the skeptics, here and here. An appeal to let markets pick the solutions, not governments.
This week's must-read post is a summary of the global temperature trends for the past 4,500 years. Or back to when those neolithic SUV bastards screwed up the climate. A teaser graphic:

Polar bears are not dying out. Make up your darned minds, Ursus maritimus. Also, how can you tell if the polar bear population is up or down if you have no reliable data to base their historic numbers on? Just askin'.
It's the Sun, stupid. Part the third.
Part Six: Global Hottie
I
bet you guessed this one from the big clue in Part Two, right? Wrong!
You thought this was going to be Liv Tyler and the link was Armageddon,
I just know you thought that. But no, this week's hottie is Tea Leoni,
and the movie link is Deep Impact. I crack myself up sometimes. Enjoy Mrs. Mulder...Source Have a great weekend. 3.26 Copyright (C) 2008 Compojoom.com / Copyright (C) 2007 Alain Georgette / Copyright (C) 2006 Frantisek Hliva. All rights reserved." |
