Now
here’s a surprise: apathy is in the air. The good folk of the UK are
starting to get bored by the constant uncritical coverage of ‘global
warming’ in the media. Well, well, you would never have guessed it,
would you? But do believe the statistics: they come from a YouGov poll
carried out for, of all bodies, the Environmental Transport Association (ETA): ‘Public bored of green talk ahead of “green” Budget’.
The
total sample size of the poll was 2,060 adults, with fieldwork carried
out between February 12 - 14, 2008. The figures have been weighted and
are representative of all GB adults (aged 18+). The main conclusions
are as follows:
- 18% of those polled are bored by the amount of media coverage of CO2 emissions [men much more than women];
- A further 12% think that there is too much coverage;
- 6% are totally indifferent to the coverage;
- 4% haven’t a fog about CO2 [great science education in the UK!]; and,
- 4% are not aware of any coverage at all [I wish I wasn’t!]
